I resigned on my own: Kerala actor Dileep
Kochi: Countering Association of Malayalam Movie Artists president Mohanlal, Dileep, accused of hiring a rapist to seek revenge against a former co-star, says he quit on his own.
Just four days ago, Mohanlal had claimed that he asked him to resign and got his resignation letter, which Dileep posted on his Facebook wall on Tuesday.
He says it's just a resignation, not an expulsion.
Dileep said, “I am releasing this letter because it was not out in public after AMMA’s executive committee meeting. I am completely aware that as per the bylaw, I can be expelled only if the general body has a majority to decide so. I have given my resignation after a long discussion with my elder brother Mohanlal, and thinking that the organisation should not be destroyed in my name.”
In his resignation letter, Dileep says he has been a target for a crime he had “never committed.
“I have been blamed and hunted for the last one and a half years for the words and actions I had never said or committed,” he said.
Meanwhile, he also said there is a need for the organisation to stand firm as it is helping poor actors of the industry.
“There is a public perception that all actors are rich, but this is not true. The association which helps and supports those poor actors needs to stand strong,” the letter said.
He said that those who are trying to eliminate AMMA were targeting him.
He also alleged a conspiracy between the press and some members of the AMMA who had some vested interest in defaming the association and him.
“Despite that, the organisation should exist strongly for the welfare of those people living by the contributions of AMMA,” the letter says.
“There is no need to continue any conspiracies thereby destroying an organisation like AMMA in my name. Till now, I believe I was a member of the organisation. In order to end the debates and controversies, I submit this letter as my resignation, and I request to remove me from all membership duties of this organisation.”
The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) had earlier welcomed Dileep's expulsion.
