Hyderabad gets first-ever Braille EPIC card

Once registered with the app, the civic body will arrange a vehicle and commute the voter to the nearest polling station.

Hyderabad: City gets first-ever Braille EPIC card in the country. As per the ECI, the Braille card will enable the specially-abled to exercise their franchise without the help of anyone.

Apart from this, the GHMC has also developed Vaada (Voter Accessibility App for the Differently Abled,) App for the specially-abled. Once registered with the app, the civic body will arrange a vehicle and commute the voter to the nearest polling station.

The Chief Election Commissioner Mr Om Prakash Rawat inaugurated the app on Tuesday and also interacted with the physically- challenged persons, their representatives and enquired about the facilities which are being provided to them in the polling stations for the ensuing elections.

Mr Dana Kishore, DEO and Commissioner, GHMC, explained about the VAADA App and facilities like transportation to them from their residences to polling station and providing them ramps, escorts and all basic facilities for their convenience will be looked into to ensure that they cast their votes without any problem.

These details can be filled in the form of text and is also voice enabled. It facilitates users to record their details which once entered will also have the location details that are captured using the latitude and longitude coordinates.

Additional Chief Secretary Dr S.K. Joshi, along with the senior officials, had an interaction with the physically challenged persons. Chief Election Commissioner said there was a need to be more sensitive towards persons with disabilities to ensure their holistic participation in the election process.

C-Vigil App is also being provided by ECI to check electoral malpractices during election. This App which stands for citizens' vigil will be operational for the first time as a pilot project said the CEC.
