Ban on plastic usage in Tirumala from November 1

The estate officer and health officer have been instructed to conduct meetings with hoteliers, shop keepers etc. immediately.

Tirupati: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Tirumala, JEO, Mr K.S. Srinivasa Raju said the ban on plastic in Tirumala will be implemented from November 1.

After a review meeting with senior officers of Tirumala in Annamayya Bhavan on Tuesday, he said the plastic ban was being strictly observed in Tirupati from October 1.

“Being the focal area, we too wanted to observe the same in Tirumala from November 1 under the instructions of TTD executive officer Anil Kumar Singhal. Before that awarene-ss would be created in all the establishments in Tirumala for the next one week,” he said.

“The estate officer and health officer have been instructed to conduct meetings with hoteliers, shop keepers etc. immediately.

As far as the TTD is concerned, we have already dispensed with the usage of plastic carry bags in Tirumala temple, while searching for alternative arrangements to carry laddus.

However we are using laddu covers over 50 microns which is a permissible specification,” he added.

Meanwhile, the TTD has dispensed with morning slot darshan for the aged and physically challenged category during all Wednesdays, which will come into effect from October 24.

The management has enha-nced the evening time slot (3 pm) tokens from the existing 700 to 1,000 members in respect of the physically challen-ed and aged pilgrims permitting darshan on all Wednesdays.
