DIET centre to come up in Bheemili on PPP mode
Visakhapatnam: In a first of its kind, the state education department will set up a District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centre at Bheemili with state of the art facilities under PPP mode with a preliminary budget of Rs 7 crore. Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) model has been mostly engaged in infrastructure developm-ent projects like roads and bridges. However, the Department of Scho-ol Education invited RFP (Request for Proposal) fr-om private players un-der the BOT model envisaging a model DIET at Bheemili.
It is the endeavour of the education department to strengthen existing DIET system over a period of 30 years thr-ough public private partnership (PPP). The last date for submission of the RFP is October 31. According to the commissioner of school education officials, the mod-el DIET will have infrast-ructure and facilities wi-th stipulations on the pu-pil-teacher ratio, ICT us-age, starting of new cour-ses in teacher training and other skill developm-ents course for employment generation, with app-ropriate curriculum and emphasis on output and outcome. The educational standards at the model DIET will be on par with global institutions.
The private player will provide necessary infrastructures such as buildings, equipment, instruction material, systems, labs and smart classroo-ms. The department pla-ns to bring in a new and related course that is in demand in the prevalent market and turn the enti-re ecosystem into a desirable education hub in the region. Out of the available la-nd on the premises of DIET at Bheemili, the AP government will make available required land on lease basis up to an ex-tent of three acres to the private entity.
The tenure of the lease is for a minimum period of 15 years extendable to 30 years on mutual agreement. When it comes to admission, the DSE mentions that the DIET in PPP mode would follow the state norms. D.Ed Course would also apply to PPP mod-el DIETs. Besides the existing two-year D.Ed courses, the centre will introduce a 4-year integrated B.Ed, language pundit courses, M.Ed and courses in special education.
