Dengue scare high in Chittoor

Concern over number of deaths due to fever in the district.

TIRUPATI: With health officers reporting 25 death could have resulted due to dengue last month, residents and administration from Chittoor district are worries and tense. Apart from dengue, a swine flu and 20 other deaths were recorded this month. The DMHO of Chittoor Ms C. Aruna Sulochana Devi heads a team, which is visiting the fever-effected villages. A door to door survey is being conducted in all the prone villages.

With a record achievement, the administration has completely shut down more than 26 wells filling them up with soil in the areas where there are larval detections. A large number of swine flu cases are registered in Tirupati division. Most of the cases have been proved positive for pilgrims who visited Tirumala. Medical officers requested SV medical college team to visit the effected villages.

Though the number of deaths due to dengue is not very high, the number of deaths recorded due to fever is high. In some of the villages in the district, there is a patient in every house. All the departments have been working in coordination for the last couple of weeks. The coordination failure has been a drawback to the administration earlier. The district collector has suspended many from duty for negligence and for not attending and organising proper medical camps.

Speaking to DC, C. Aruna Sulochana Devi, DMHO, Chittoor, said, "The fever cases are drastically down. Earlier there would be minimum of 600 cases in every medical camp, when we initiated. Now it has come down to single digit. We are doing a house to house survey, collecting blood samples. Also performing fogging and spraying operations to eradicate mosquitoes."
