Vijayawada: Kapu job mela turns a damper

The students had agitated to take this to the Chief Minister's notice.

Vijayawada: The Job Mela conducted by Kapu Corporation has not yielded the desired results.

Students complained that they are offered jobs irrelevant of their qualifications and alleged that not many mentioned companies have come for the recruitment drive. The students had agitated to take this to the Chief Minister’s notice. The corporation has been spending Rs 200 crore for skill development programme.

Kapu Mega Job Mela is facing huge criticism from aspirants of the Kapu community as Kapu welfare and development corporation has announced that reputed companies like Deloitte, TCS, HCL, Fortune, Tech Mahindra and others will recruit 5,000 employees who are qualified with M-tech, MBA, MCA, BE, BPharma, BBA, BCA, B.Com and 10+2. But it is learnt that some of the reputed companies as announced have not turned up for the drive but instead many other real estate, health sector and hospitality institutions were present.

According to Chennamsetty Ranganath, an engineering graduate, “There were around 1,0000 aspirants who attended the job mela out of whom around 4,000 would be engineering graduates who are offered positions in civil construction companies as supervisors and other small jobs irrespective of our qualification with which we are deeply disappointed and had to return back for our bright future.”

A. Saranya, an aspirant posted in her social networking site that not many companies have come for the recruitment drive but the government has announced that 300 companies were present and also when asked for certain companies to register the name it is said that the entries were closed.

Another aspirant K. Chandra Sekhar said, “No HR executives from the companies have turned up at the drive and just collected our resumes and asked us to come to their offices for further rounds of interview and also mentioned that no screening of the resumes of the candidates has been done.”

Reacting to this, Kapu Welfare and Development Corporation chairman Ch. Ramanujaya said, “We accept that a few of the companies had not come for the recruitment drive. We have given employment for 5,000 aspirants out of 10,000 registrations. We are conducting skill development programme as per the feedback of the companies with Rs 200 crore in various levels to provide further employment opportunities.
