Two medicos die in road accident in Bengaluru

Atif lost control over the vehicle, which moved to the other side of the road and hit the median.

Bengaluru: Four people, including two women, were killed in three separate accidents in Nelamangala, Hebbal and High Grounds traffic police station limits since Saturday night.

In the first incident, two medical students died after their car hit a median and later collided with a truck early Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Atif, 21, and Leena Maria, 20, both hailing from Kerala and students of Siddhartha Medical College in Tumkuru. Atif was a third year BDS student, while Leena was studying for second year MBBS.

Atif was driving the car and the accident took place around 2.30 am near Budihal on Nelamangala Highway, while they were returning to the college hostel from Bengaluru.

According to the police, Atif lost control over the vehicle, which moved to the other side of the road and hit the median. It then got hit by a truck coming in the opposite direction. The car got completely crushed and the two students died on the spot, while the truck driver sustained injuries.

Passersby alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and used cutters to extricate the bodies from the mangled car. They were taken to a nearby government hospital. Nelamangala police have registered a case.

Two pedestrians knocked down
Two pedestrians died in separate incidents in the city since Saturday night. In the first incident, a 65-year-old woman died on the spot after being knocked down by a two-wheeler in front of Kabeer Ashrama near Dodda Bommasandra on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Padmavathi, wife of Devappa Gowda.

According to police the incident took place around 7.30pm when Padmavathi was returning home after going to a nearby shop. While she was crossing the road, Joseph, who was riding his two-wheeler (KA-04 JE 7596), rammed Padmavathi.

Passersby rushed to Padmavathi to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. Hebbal traffic police have registered case under 279,304 (a) IPC and Joseph has been arrested, police added.

In the second incident, a 43-year-old pedestrian was killed by a KSRTC bus near Krishna floor mill. The deceased has been identified as Jagadeesh, a resident of Srirampura and who used to work as computer technician.

The incident took place around 8pm when Jagadeesh was heading towards bus stand. A KSRTC bus that was heading towards Kempegowda Bus terminal knocked him down and Jagadeesh died on the spot. High grounds traffic police have arrested the bus driver and registered a case.
