No mention of AIIMS at Mahoba in PM's speech

People of Bundeli Samaj had written about 1.5 lakh post-cards to Narendra Modi, demanding an AIIMS in Mahoba.

Mahoba: People of Bundeli samaj, who wrote about 1.5 lakh post-cards to the Prime Minister in several languages demanding an AIIMS in the town, were left high and dry on Monday after Narendra Modi did not make any announcement to this effect during his visit in Mahoba.

"We were expecting an announcement from the PM for AIIMS. The region is in dire need of it," Coordinator of Bundeli Samaj Tara Patkar said.

Patkar is leading a campaign demanding AIIMS and other facilities in the district and today was 79th day of his fast.

Earlier, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had met Patkar during his recent Deoria-to-Delhi yatra and had assured him he would take up the issue.

Mahoba MP Pushpendra Singh Chandel had also held talks with the protesters and assured them of his help.

Patkar said around 1.5 lakh post-cards in Sanskrit, Urdu and 16 other languages were sent to PM Modi with demand to set up an AIIMS in Mahoba.

"No attention has been paid even as people of Bundelkhand suffer hundreds of other problems. It is unfortunate," said Patkar, who is walking barefoot for past one year to press for his demands.

Mahoba is centrally-located in Bundelkhand and is equidistant, or at a lesser distance compared to Jhansi or Banda, from majority of the areas in the region, he said.
