Kakinada: Errors in online records put landowners in a fix

Buyers not keen on purchasing land without rectifications.

Kakinada: Errors in computerised online registration of land records are giving more of headache than relief to landowners as buyers are not keen on purchasing land without rectifications in online records, forcing the landowners to run to the revenue and collectors’ offices.

Agriculture land transaction has become extremely difficult after the introduction of online registration of lands. In many cases, there are several discrepancies in the entries in computerised online records like mismatch in account numbers, survey numbers, extent particulars and also spelling errors in names. While most of the farmers are illiterate, even the educated are also finding it difficult to get the rectifications done.

According to government statistics, officials received 12,71,455 such petitions and 12,41,636 had been attended to and 1,29,799 were rejected due to lack of proper documents.

Many ancestral properties too have fallen into litigation. “My wife was given some land at the time of our marriage 30 years ago. We have all documental evidence, passbooks, title deeds etc. But in Mee Intiki Mee Bhoomi online portal, our entries are wrongly quoted. For the past one year, I have been visiting revenue offices. As per their instructions, I surveyed my land and completed other formalities as per law. Again, they entered wrong details,” said Mr M. Suryanarayana of Kakinada Rural mandal.

He said his survey number was quoted with another farmer’s name. “The farmer, too, is busy meeting officials along with me, instead of taking care of his field,” he said.

However, Andhra Pradesh State Revenue Officers’ Association president Mr. Bopparaju Venkateswara Rao said revenue officials could not be held responsible for this. “We have submitted several representations to the state government to give clarity on several land litigations such as registration or selling of government lands, oral land transactions, unregistered documents and other litigations. But the government has not given any clarity in this direction,” he said.
