Bengaluru: Four acres of recovered land in RR Nagar fenced
Bengaluru: A day after Bengaluru South Taluk officials acquired 30 properties in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, the officials will fence four acres of the recovered land on Monday.
According to tahshildar Shivakumar, the officials have started fencing only the vacant plots and about two acres of government land is now recovered as part of the drive.
While most of the vacant plots developed on the ‘kharab’ land are now in the Taluk department’s ambit, no immediate demolition of buildings will take place, he maintained.
He said, “We did bring down some compound walls and makeshift sheds built on vacant plots which were illegally owned. However, no residential or commercial building from the 75 properties identified as encroachers will be demolished until we receive orders from the court.”
The tahshildar said that the encroached upon 7.31 acres of government land was a major chunk located in one stretch and out of this, four acres was now with the government. “Although the owners of the properties have urged the High Court that they were innocent while buying the plots, it is unlikely that the court may give any relief since the case has been going on for over a decade. There are very less chances of the petitioners getting relief,” he said, maintaining that despite eviction notices to the property owners, there was no response from any owner.
“Every owner was given a week’s notice to vacate the building. However, since they moved the court and the hearing has been adjourned for four weeks, the owners have not vacated the buildings. Also, if we now try to demolish some building out of the 30 properties whose owner hasn’t moved the court, there are high chances that they will appeal in the court too and delay the demolition process. Hence, the demolition drive has been on hold,” Shivakumar added.
The demolition drive on acquired land is expected to take place in four weeks.
