Integrated horticulture for Kotagiri farmers
OOTY: Horticulture department will implement integrated farming system in 100 hectares in Kotagiri area in Nilgiris.
Stating this in a release, Ms.J. Innocent Divya, collector of Nilgiris, said that through this new scheme poultry, cattle and livestock rearing and apiculture will be added with the horticulture to bring more revenue to pave way for sustainable farming in the hills.
To start with, it is proposed to implement the integrated farming system in about 100 hectares in Kotagiri belt in Nilgiris. The individual farmers who are interested to be part of this scheme should have a farm land holding to the tune 2.50 acres with sufficient space for taking up cattle and livestock rearing, poultry and apiculture.
Farmers selected for this scheme will get a subsidy up to `1Lakh, the press release added. Ryots have been advised to use it.
