Bengaluru: Walkathon for girl child held

Bengaluru: To raise awareness on the rehabilitation of abused, abandoned and destitute children, hundreds of Bengalureans from different walks of life walked together for the cause from Kanteerava Stadium to Cubbon Park on Sunday. The walkathon was organised by SAIBISA Charitable Trust to raise funds for their initiative, ‘My Golden Pen’, under which the girl survivors are being educated, sheltered and cared for. The children are admitted to reputed residential schools across the country to give them a fresh start in life and an entry into the mainstream. Many of them also require continuous medical care, such as regular surgical reconstructions. The organisers said that the walkathon was held as a primer to the fundraising event scheduled for October 4 at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, where Vani Ganapathy and child prodigy singer Sooryagayathri will perform in support of the cause. Di Jaan Jaya Wahi , author and founder of SAIBISA Charitable Trust, Soumya Reddy (MLA, Jayanagar), Neelmani Raju (DG&IGP), Vani Ganapathy (danseuse), Prakash Belawadi (theatre artist and activist), Anil Shetty (politician, entrepreneur, activist), Chitra Talwar (ex-VP of PepsiCo and Core Committee Head, BPAC) and others joined the walkathon.
