Hyderabad: Over five lakh citizens thronged the Hussainsagar lake for Ganesh immersion on Sunday. NTR Marg was flooded with people and vehicles, disregarding clear instructions from the traffic police that private vehicles will not be allowed.
Massive traffic jams ensued as a result but this did not deter people from flocking to the area.
Those who could not find space along the route to get a clear view of the Ganesh procession stood on the Telugu Talli flyover.
Regular commuters who opt for Mint Compound road as a shortcut to reach Khairatabad flyover were also put to inconvenience as the route was jammed.
A lot of people took the Metro to commute during the immersion as there were traffic restrictions on road. However, several people violating police instructions reached the NTR Marg and parked their vehicles near the NTR Gardens to witness the immersion.
The traffic police managed to remove the vehicles immediately after the Khairatabad Ganesh immersion. Traffic was diverted from 6 am on Sunday till completion of the immersion, at CTO, YMCA, Paradise Crossroads, Patny Crossroads, Bata Crosstoads, Adavaiah Crossroads and Ghasmandi Crossroads.
