Gauri Lankesh case: Even sketch can't help

A source in the SIT told Deccan Chronicle that the investigation was underway in all angles.

Bengaluru: Despite Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy stating that the SIT is working on a new lead in the murder of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, SIT sources said they have got nothing to implicate anyone. Further, they are also skeptical on tracing the killer even if they come up with a sketch of the suspect.

A source in the SIT told Deccan Chronicle that the investigation was underway in all angles. “We are making all possible efforts but no clinching evidence is found against anyone, making it difficult for us to decide what could have led to the killing,” the source said.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the SIT officials are in constant discussion with the CID team that is probing the murder of renowned scholar Dr M. M. Kalburgi. “We are in touch with them and exchanging details. We are analysing the investigation procedure followed by that team and what we need to take the investigation forward in that angle,” the source said.

Further, the SIT has not reportedly decided whether to draw the sketch of the suspect. “First of all, nobody has seen the suspect and even there the CCTV footage is not clear. So, it’s difficult to come up with a sketch. Even if we do it, it would not help much as even in many other cases the sketches have not led the public to identify the suspect and inform the police,” the source added.

SIT quizzes Doreswamy
The SIT on Saturday recorded the statement of freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy who was, along with Ms. Lankesh, part of the State level committee to oversee implementation of the policy to rehabilitate the Naxals. The team asked Doreswamy about the details regarding the working of the committee.
