Supreme Court refers SLP in cash-for-vote case to Hyderabad HC

The appeal was moved by AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu seeking a stay of an ACB Court order.

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Friday referred to the Hyderabad High Court an appeal for a decision on the cash for vote scam.

The appeal was moved by AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu seeking a stay of an ACB Court order.

Earlier, the court of the Anti-Corruption Bureau had directed the ACB of Telangana to make a fresh investigation into the case by taking the cognizance of the audio tapes carrying a telephonic conversation between Mr Naidu and TRS nominated MLA, Stephenson.

A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice SA Bobde and Justice Ashok Bhushan was dealing with a special leave petition by YSRC MLA A Ramakrishna Reddy seeking to vacate the stay order granted by the High Court on the order of the ACB court. The petitioner’s counsel urged the apex court to direct the ACB to probe the role of Naidu in the cash for vote scam, based on the audio tapes’ evidence.

The bench said, “In view of the fact that the special leave petition is directed against an interim order, we are not inclined to interfere with the impugned order.”

While dismissing the SLP, the bench said, “However, counsels for both the parties agree that the matter be decided by the high court in a period of four weeks from today. We, therefore, request the high court to decide the matter peremptorily within four weeks' from today.”
