Kozhikode: Shobhayatras filled with joy

There were traffic restrictions in the city from 2 pm for the Shobhayathra.

KOZHIKODE: The streets of Kozhikode were filled with ‘Unni-kannans’ and ‘Gopikas’. Children of various ages dressed up as Lord Krishna and Gopika, lined up at Shobhayathras with the message ‘friendship without boundaries and mind without walls’, here on Friday.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat inaugurated the Mahashobhayathra in the city organised under the auspices Balagokulam handing over the flag of the organisation to a boy dressed up as Lord Krishna, on Friday. Later, he also addressed a public meeting held at Sri Narayana Centenary Hall in which organising committee chairperson K.V. Thomas presided.

Under the leadership of various regional committees processions from Eranjipalam Bagavati temple, Gandhi road Durga Bhagavati temple, Azhakodi Devi temple, Thrissala Bagavathi temple, Mankavu and Railway station premises, Kallayi, also joined the Maha Shobhayathra that ended in Muthalakulam Annapoorneswari Temple. Balagokulam claimed that there were more than 3,000 Shobhayathras organised in the district in which as many as 30,000 people participated.

There were traffic restrictions in the city from 2 pm for the Shobhayathra. Traffic was diverted at Palayam, Arayidathupalam Bridge, Mini bypass, Nadakkavu and Pushpa junction.

The campaign and the celebrations of this year was free of plastic.

Many tableaus had accompanied the Shobhayathras in various parts of the district.
