Hyderabad: The state government has decided to perform the Ganga Harathi for the first time in Hussainsagar during the Ganesh festival.
After reviewing the arrangements being made for the festival with officials and members of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, Ministers Mohd Mahamood Ali, T. Srinivas Yadav and C .Malla Reddy told the media that the endowments department would organise Ganga Harathi during the festival.
They said that to reduce the burden on Hussainsagar, where thousands of idols are expected to be immersed, the GHMC had taken up construction of 28 water ponds. The construction of 25 had been completed and each of them could take 5,000 idols.
