Karnataka govt responsible for delay in NIMZ project: Officer

The state government had not submitted its techno economic feasibility report to the Union government for its approval.

Kalaburagi: The state government’s failure to submit the techno economic feasibility report for the proposed National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Chittapur is to blame for the delay in establishing it, according to joint director of industries and commerce, Jaya Priyadarshini.

The officer has made the admission in response to a query by the president and secretary of the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) , Amarnath C Patil and Shashikanth Patil under the Right to Information Act.

The two men have also written to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Minister for Large and Medium Industries, K.J. George complaining about the delay in setting up the NIMZ and demanding that it be established as soon as possible to quell the “demand for separate statehood and boost the economic growth of the region”.

In the letters, they said that after identifying the land for the NIMZ project in Chittapur taluk, the state government had not submitted its techno-economic feasibility report to the Union government for its approval.

“We strongly believe that industrialisation of Hyderabad Karnataka region with the establishment of NIMZ here wholly depends on the strong political will of the state government. This step will go a long way in quelling the demand for a separate state,” they added. The Union government had in 2014 sanctioned the NIMZ project for Kalaburagi as part of its endeavour to boost GDP growth and create a 100 million jobs.

The Kalaburagi NIMZ project requires investment of Rs 25,000 crore for establishment of industries with a potential to create one lakh jobs through direct employment and 1.60 lakh jobs through indirect.
