Bengaluru: Inspector, cops suspended for failure to register FIR

A senior police official said that the inspector failed to register an FIR in connection with a robbery-cum-murder case.

Bengaluru: A police inspector attached to Kodigehalli police station along with two of his subordinates were placed under suspension on Wednesday for dereliction of duty.

City Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar suspended police inspector Rajanna, assistant sub-inspector Rajanna and constable Jairam for not registering First Information Report in time despite a medico-legal case.

A senior police official said that the inspector failed to register an FIR in connection with a robbery-cum-murder case. The 21-year-old victim was stabbed by the robbers around 10 pm on Sunday August 19. The victim identified as Chandrashekar and had come from Gauribiddanur to the city in a bus and got down at Kodigehalli Ring Road near Badrappa Layout. He was soon waylaid by two bike-borne miscreants.

They brandished a knife and demanded Chandrashekar to part away with his cash, and other valuables. When he resisted, one of the miscreants stabbed him on the thigh and made away with valuables. A few passersby hospitalized the victim.

Investigations further revealed that M.S. Ramaiah hospital had registered a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) and intimated the jurisdictional police.

Though the Kodigehalli police got to know of the incident, they failed to first register a robbery case even on Monday morning. Chandrashekar succumbed to his injuries around 3 pm on Monday, after which Kodigehalli police registered an FIR on Monday night.
