UDF to scale up fight against minister KK Shylaja
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said on Wednesday that health minister K.K. Shylaja was not bothered about public interest even after attracting severe criticism from the High Court.
The Opposition would go ahead with the agitation demanding her resignation, he said.
Mr Chennithala alleged that the state government had failed to protect the interests of the student community and was taking care of private managements.
The court had streamlined the admission procedures in the self-financing medical colleges. The Chief Minister’s silence meant that the government was functioning in a feudal manner as stated by the court.
“Even after the court had criticised the government and the minister on the medical admissions, Ms Shylaja was clinging to power,” Mr Chennithala said.
The minister had misused her power in the appointment of members to the Kerala State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights.
She had flouted the rules and posted a person as managing director of the state-run Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society though he had not even applied for the post. Mr Vijayan’s stand on the controversy was strange, he said and alleged that the Chief Minister was protecting the minister.
