Triumphant Pinarayi Vijayan hails Kerala High Court verdict

Pinarayi said he had believed right from the beginning that ultimately the truth will triumph.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday hailed the High Court verdict saying that truth has finally triumphed. At a hurriedly convened press conference, a visibly relieved chief minister said, the verdict has proven CPM central committee’s stand that Lavalin case was politically motivated. “The HC verdict will give me required energy to take forward Kerala’s development initiatives,” he said.

Pinarayi said he had believed right from the beginning that ultimately the truth will triumph. Firstly during UDF regime, vigilance probe found nothing to arraign him as an accused. Secondly CBI examined all files and did not find anything on the basis of which a case could be registered.

He said the CBI came under pressure which led to filing of the politically motivated case. “By keeping me in front, they were actually targeting my party,” he said.

Pinarayi said the CPM CC had examined all issues and made it clear that it was a politically motivated case. Later CBI court, after examining all sides, pointed out that the case cannot be chargesheeted.

He said the verdict has made it clear that he was being hounded and made a scapegoat. Many power ministers had come but only he was picked up and made an accused.

The Chief Minister said the CBI was trying to target him deliberately and this was because of political pressure. “The allegation against me does not stand now. Even during the earlier phase of truth had come out. The HC verdict is the confirmation of this truth. I am expressing my happiness," he said.

Pinarayi said he always believed that ultimately the judiciary will find the truth. “This belief has got further strengthened by the HC verdict,” he said.

"It was clear when I sought people’s verdict and received their mandate during elections. They knew that the allegations were not factual. The court today said that it was flooded with anonymous letters after the case was posted for verdict.

This revealed that many had political objectives behind the case,” he said.
Taking a dig at his adversaries, the chief minister said people were waiting eagerly for this verdict for two reasons. “There was one set of people who viewed it positively,” the Chief Minister said. “But there were certain mysterious forces who were hounding me throughout. This verdict would disappoint them.”
