New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Thursday pronounced a landmark verdict, declaring right to individual privacy as a fundamental right under the Constitution.
The judgement was delivered by a nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice of India JS Khehar and Justices J Chelameswar, SA Bobde, RK Agrawal, Rohinton Nariman, AM Sapre, DY Chandrachud, Sanjay Kishan Kaul and S Abdul Nazeer.
“Right to privacy was an intrinsic part of Right to Life and Personal Liberty under Article 21 and entire Part III of the Constitution,” the bench ruled.
“Privacy, in its simplest sense, allows each human being to be left alone in a core which is inviolable,” it added.
