Rains and Bengaluru goes to pot...hole
Bengaluru: Heavy rains have not only inundated many areas, but also reduced Bengaluru to a city of potholes, reflecting the shoddy work done by the BBMP. Roads in and around K.R. Market, Wilson Garden, Double Road, Koramangala, Ejipura, Adugodi, Ramamurthy Nagar, Chamarajpet, Allalasandra, Shanthinagar, Majestic and many areas are filled with craters.
“The road opposite passport office in Koramangala was recently relaid as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was supposed to visit the area to lay the foundation stone for a single-housing project at Rajendranagar early this month" said Mr Jagan, a resident of the area.
But it is not even 20 days and the brand new road has developed craters that are all filled with rainwater. “If this is the case with a newly-laid stretch, you can imagine the condition of stretches in other parts of the city,” he said.
“Commuting has become a nightmare. Pothole-ridden roads have slowed down traffic in this gridlocked city. We can never reach our destination on time,” said Mr Ganapathi, a marketing executive.
When asked about the condition of roads, BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad said, “At many places, heavy rains have led to potholes. Also, the works taken up by optical fibre cable (OFC) operators are causing potholes. Also, in some parts of the city, the roads are dug up to lay piped gas lines.”
“We have taken up works to fill potholes. Officials have been asked to get all the potholes filled by Sunday and I will personally inspect it" Mr Manjunath said.
