Opposition meets President Ramnath Kovind on Nerella

They submitted a memorandum to the President seeking action against the police officials who were involved in the attacks.

Hyderabad: An all party delegation on Wednesday met President Ramnath Kovind in Delhi and briefed him about the Nerella incident wherein police allegedly attacked Dalits and members of BC communities people who were trying to prevent the sand mafia operating in the area.

They submitted a memorandum to the President seeking action against the police officials who were involved in the attacks. They wanted the Centre to institute a high-level probe into the incident.

They said that though the Dalits had been admitted in a government hospital with injuries, neither the government nor the Director General of Police had lodged cases against the police officials concerned under the SC/ST Atrocities Act, but merely suspended a junior police official.

They urged the President to direct the DGP to book cases against the police officials including the superintendent of police under the SC/ST Act.

The delegation comprised PCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Congress S.A Sampath Kumar, Guduru Narayana Reddy (Congress), L. Ramana (TD), TJAC chairman Prof. Kodandaram, CPI leaders D. Raja, Chada Venkata Reddy and Aziz Pasha, Telangana Vidyavanthula Vedika convenor Gurajala Ravinder and others.
