Aleru has 1st century temples
Hyderabad: Apart from iron age tools and megalithic graves, archaeologists have found first and second century temples and deities in Golanukonda in Aleru mandal of Yadadri-Bhongir district.
Archaeologist Sriramoju Haragopal said, “The megalithic burials and stone age tools are evidence to show that Golanukonda existed from that time. We found mud beads, one foot long bricks of the Satavahana period in the cave behind the Lord Shiva temple and a wall built with bricks of the Vishnukundin era.”
He said that the villagers found many red colour terracotta mud beeds.
A team fo experts including Mr Haragopal and V. Muralikrishna and Chanti found around 10 Nagasilpas.
“One of the Naga statues belongs to the first and second century. There is a tunnel and cave behind the temple. The cave has five sivalingas carved on a stone,” said Mr Haragopal.
Experts found several statues of various gods and goddesses in Golanukonda of Yadadri-Bhongir.
