2K Run to promote fish consumption in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: NTR district collector Dr S. Dilli Rao on Sunday flagged off the 2K Run Organic Walkathon at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada aimed at encouraging masses to consume fish products.

The walkathon has been jointly organised by the AP Fisheries Department, Bhumi Organics, and Prawn Farmers’ Federation of India. Slogans aired during the run and walkathon included “Run for Fish Andhra” and “Chepalu Tinandi – Arogyamga Undandi”.

The collector said to promote the consumption of fish products locally, the state government has set up Fish Andhra outlets throughout the state. The aim is to increase the per capita usage of fishery products from 8 kg to 25 kg. He pointed out that fish is treated as vegetarian food in West Bengal.

Dilli Rao announced that Fisheries Department and Bhumi Organics are jointly organising the Sea Food Festival at ‘A’ convention hall from July 28 to July 30 to bring awareness about the consumption of fish among people.

Fisheries joint directors V. Venkateswara Rao and Heera Naik, deputy director A. Nagaraja, additional director Anjali, Bhumi Organic MD Raghu Ram and Prawn Farmers’ Federation of India president V. Lakshmi Kumar Raju were among those present.
