THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After he denounced the Youth Congress members in Thrissur chipping in to buy a car for Alathur MP Remya Haridas, the district leaders are targeting KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran.
On Tuesday, Wadakkanchery MLA Anil Akkara, who took the initiative, took to Facebook and wondered if Thrissur DCC required a president.
The DCC remain headless after T.N. Prathapan got elected to the Parliament.
"KPCC president should take up the responsibility," he said.
Later, speaking to reporters, he said they dropped the idea of buying the car after his comments on Facebook and the media.
"But if he can do it on Facebook, we can also air our opinions on social media," he said. "As a member of the AICC, I too am also holding a responsible position like him. He spoke like an elder brother. So we requested the elder brother."
He said Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala do not make public statements but speak to them directly.
YC state secretary Sunil Lalur also openly criticised Mr Ramachandran for not finding a replacement for Mr Prathapan.
At the same time, a section of Congress leaders feels that Mr Akkara has got the "silent nod" of former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran.
Mr Akkara alleged that Mr Ramachandran's open comments were to get "likes" from "cyber comrades."
"Now, MLAs are not invited to KPCC meetings," he alleged.
After the KPCC president's criticism, Ms Haridas also came up with a Facebook post saying she is not interested in getting the car.
However, a Congress source said the controversy was unwarranted as it was not the first time a politician getting a car.
When Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala was serving as the KPCC president, Overseas Indian Cultural Congress had gifted him a car.
Similarly, former Congress MLA P. Balan who was a huge critic of K. Karunakaran and even CPI veteran K. V. Surendranath had received cars as a gift from party workers.
