Bengaluru: A day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) pitched for party president Rahul Gandhi as the Opposition's PM candidate, JD (S) president H D Deve Gowda backed the candidature of Mr Gandhi for the top post, adding a whole new dimension to the emerging opposition alliance for 2019.
In a departure from the past, Mr Gowda was forthcoming with his views on Mr Gandhi's role to emerge as an alternative to Prime Minister Narendera Modi. "We will support Mr Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate," he said on Monday. Mr Gowda's son and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who met Mr Gandhi in Delhi last week, had remarked that the latter has all the attributes to occupy the post of Prime Minister.
