Telangana: Slow work defers temple reopening
Hyderabad: The deadline to complete the renovation of the Yadadri temple has been extended as the work is progressing at a slower pace than envisaged. With the onset of the rains since June, the work is getting delayed further.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had earlier set Dasara as the deadline to complete the renovation of the main complex so that the temple could be opened for pilgrims.
With two months left for the September 30 Dasara deadline, renovation officials informed the government that it would require three more months to complete the renovation of the main complex.
With the revised deadline, the government has asked officials to ensure the completion of the renovation of the main temple by January 30, 2018.
The CM had announced Yadadri temple development project at a cost of Rs 800 crore soon after assuming office in 2014.
The Chief Minister has visited Yadadri five times to finalise the blueprint of the renovation and also to chalk out the plan of action to monitor the progress of the renovation.
Endowments minister A. Indrakaran Reddy said, “Our top most priority is to ready the main temple complex by this year end and open it for pilgrims’ darshan. We tried our best to meet Dasara deadline but there was a slight delay due to rains.”
“A renovation project of this magnitude could take few months more but we are geared up to complete the work by this year end,” he added.
Mr Reddy said work pertaining to the construction of four Mada Veedhis and Inner Prakarams are being taken up with 500 sculptors engaged in carving the sculptures, statues, and designs on these pillars. He said the work on seven Gopurams with wooden roofing are going on simultaneously.
