Tamil Nadu: Engineering students to get 3 years to clear arrears

As per the decision, those who have joined after 2011 only can write the upcoming November exams.

Chennai: To focus more on current engineering students, the higher education department has decided to give three years for old students to clear their arrears.

“We will allow students who are within the seven year period to write arrears from upcoming semester exams,” Sunil Paliwal, Higher Education Secretary, told reporters here on the sidelines of engineering counselling on Sunday.

As per the decision, those who have joined after 2011 only can write the upcoming November exams.

“During the last April May exams, 2001 batch students wrote arrear papers. It does not serve the purpose. The controller of examinations is burdened with setting 6,000 question papers for these students,” he said.

By following the time limit, the question papers would come down to 1,800 from the current 6,000.

The department is planning to implement the rule which was mandated by UGC.
