Hyderabad: The ambitious target of the the state government to have 20,000 MW of installed power generation capacity is unlikely to be achieved by 2019. TSGenco got the green signal for its 4x270 MW Bhadradri thermal power plant in Khammam district from the National Green Tribunal, which asked the Central appraisal committee dispose of the environmental aspects in two months. However, the project has been delayed by a year and may not meet its March 2017 deadline
The 4000 MW Yadadri thermal power project is also behind schedule. In both cases, rights activists had moved the NGT citing violation of norms. Hit by delays, the state will have to continue to by power from private producers. Even the deal with Chhattisgarh discoms for supply of 1,000 MW power will be delayed as work on the Wardha-Dichpalli transmission line is unlikely to be finish before March next.
The state generates 6,000 MW now. Officials said peak hour load due to nine-hour daytime supply to agriculture is projected to touch 10,000 MW by October. “The state will require 84,496 million units by March 2019 compared to over 45,000 MU now. The government wants to achieve over 20,000 MW by March 2019 by going for solar, wind, thermal and hydel power projects,” a senior official in the energy department said.
