Mahadevapur police plant 22,000 saplings in a minute

Mahadevapur police created a record of sorts by planting 22,600 saplings in just 60 seconds.

KARIMNAGAR: Mahadevapur police created a record of sorts by planting 22,600 saplings in just 60 seconds in different places in the mandal headquarters at 11 am on Saturday. They surpassed a similar attempt made by Kataram cops who sowed 6,000 seedlings in a minute on July 13. Warangal Range DIG T. Prabhakar Rao, Godavarikhani ASP Vishnu S. Warrier, Kataram inspector G. Sadan Kumar and Mahadevapur SI Y. Krishna Reddy were present.

Mr Prabhakar Rao cautioned that cases would be booked against those who destroy saplings planted under the second phase of Telanganaku Haritha Haram, an initiative taken up to enhance green cover in the state. Mr Sadandandam said they could create the record by taking help from local people, students, auto-rickshaw drivers and a few public representatives. He said they ensured involvement of the public and around 3,000 students to ensure efficient implementation of the plantation drive. About 12,000 people in the town turned up for the programme.

The inspector recalled that 14 committees were formed comprising members of SHGs, senior citizens and constables. “We conducted a publicity campaign for nearly a week. Locations of plantation were identified by taking inputs from people. Seedlings were sown on banks of tanks and either sides of roads in town.”, he explained.
