Bill all water supply connection: KT Rama Rao
Hyderabad: Every water supply connection must have a working meter and should be billed. Water meters that are stated to be out of order must be repaired or replaced, minister K.T. Rama Rao said on Saturday.
This is being done to bring down the quantum of water supply that is not billed, from 35 per cent currently, At current levels, it means that the Water Board loses money on supply of nearly 120 million gallons every day. The Water Board is in deficit, and desperately needs to shore up its revenues. Besides, it has pending bills of about Rs 790 crore.
A large number of unbilled connections are attributed to ‘meters under repair.
Also, when the Water Board staff visits a house and the consumer is not available, it is attributed to a ‘door lock’ case as they will be unable to read the meter. He said new water supply connections can be given after verifying the Samagra Kutumba Survey data with the GHMC.
Reviewing various water and sewerage related issues, Mr Rama Rao told the Water Board to ensure supply of potable water to all customers and that any problem of contamination should be attended to immediately.
He said that sewerage overflow and choked drains should be prevented to avoid stagnation on roads. Machines can be deployed at inundation points for dewatering during rainy days, he said.
