Hyderabad: Backward Castes lobby for Vijaya Sai’s Bill on quota

The BC leaders said that the community was deprived of the political representation though they had 56 per cent population in the country.

Hyderabad: The round table conference of 112 Backward Castes associations and 28 BC welfare aassociations on Sunday demanded that the 37 political parties in Parliament support the private member’s Bill introduced by YSR Congress MP Y. Vijaya Sai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha for political reservations for the community.

The conference chaired by BC Welfare Associations national president T. Krishnaiah appealed the members of Parliament belonging to the Backward Classes to take the initiative in passing the Bill.

The BC leaders said that the community was deprived of the political representation though they had 56 per cent population in the country.

Mr Krishnaiah said that the BCs representation has never crossed 14 per cent in legislative bodies of the country in the past 71 years. There was not even a single member of Parliament from the backward classes from 16 out of 29 states of the country.

The conference urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao take the initiative so that they could get 50 per cent political reservations.
