NEET result 2017: Some rankers want to specialise in Neurology
Hyderabad: Some Neet top rankers from TS and AP find the brain to be the most interesting part of the body.
Preeti Prasad, the 56th ranker, said, “Both my parents are neurologists and I have seen them work all my life. I find the work around neurology very fascinating.”
There are only 1,800 neurologists for 1.25 billion people. A quarter of these work in metro cities.
“Despite latest technology, neurology is the one field that requires doctor’s intervention. It is a vast field that covers the entire body. There are 600 diseases in neurology as opposed to 15 in cardiology,” said Dr Sudhir Kumar, a neurologist at Apollo Hospitals.
Kathyayini Goud, who secured the 93rd rank, wants to find cures for diseases related to the brain.
“The brain functions in a complex way and there is a lot of research and development that needs to be conducted for the same,” she said.
