Hyderabad: Rain makes veggies costly
Price rise may last for a couple of days.
Hyderabad: Heavy rain in the rural areas, especially on the city outskirts, has damaged vegetable crops, leading to a sudden rise in prices in the city.
Tomatoes which cost Rs 17 per kg in wholesale markets last week is now being sold at Rs 30 and between Rs 50 and Rs 60 in supermarkets.
A Mehdipatnam rythu bazaar officer said, it was a temporary phase and would last a couple of days. “Farmers don’t go fields during rains. The price rise is caused by fewer arrivals.”
The prices of non-local vegetables like cabbage, gourds, beetroot, onions, cucumber, were stable, he said.
