Bengaluru student bags fourth rank in NEET
Bengaluru: In good news for students from the state hoping for admission to medical and dental courses, there has been a 139.37 per cent rise in candidates passing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) this year.
Doing the state proud, Delhi Public School( South) and BASE student , Sankeerth Sadananda has topped in Karnataka with an all -India rank of 4, scoring 692/ 720 in the test. He is the only candidate from the state to have made it into the top 25 ranks.
Officials of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which announced the NEET results on Friday, said compared to last year the number of candidates, who had qualified in the examination had increased by 139.37 per cent.
“Among the qualified candidates, 2,66,221 are male students and 3,45,313, female. In all, 611539 candidates have qualified in NEET 2017,” said an officer.
However, only 0.6 per cent of candidates, who opted for question papers in Kannada, qualified in the examination. “Only one student of the 712 ,who wrote the test in Kannada, has passed,” the officer revealed.
By contrast, students who opted for question papers in English and Hindi, have managed to crack the test in big number with as many as 90.75 per cent passing it. “The percentage of those who got through the test is just 09.25 among candidates who opted for question papers in vernacular languages,” the officer said.

Among the eight transgender students, who appeared for the examination, five qualified in the examination.
