Karnataka: Census report yet to be finalised

The chairman ruled out another round of survey especially in Bengaluru city.

Bengaluru: Contradicting Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya’s statement on the release of socio-economic and caste survey report before June 30, Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission Chairman H. Kantharaja said on Thursday that it would take another one-and-a-half months to be ready.

He told reporters here that there had been a delay in getting data from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Dharwad, Ballari, Haveri, Bagalkot, Chamarajanagar and Raichur districts owing to frequent elections.

On Mr Anjaneya setting June 30 as deadline for submitting the survey report, Mr Kantharaja said it was impossible to meet that deadline for want of inputs. “I feel that we need another one-and-a-half months to submit the final report to the government,” he added.

The chairman ruled out another round of survey especially in Bengaluru city by constituting special teams to ensure cent per cent coverage as mooted by the social welfare minister.

On the selective leakage of the survey report, he said those details were not correct as the commission was yet to compute data from many districts. “Whatever appeared in the media was false and baseless. I am happy the way the survey has been done across the state,” he added.
