ASHAs stage protest at Secunderabad Cantonment PHC seeking hike in wages

The workers told me that their workload has increased manifold, in the wake of the pandemic

Hyderabad: As a part of the nationwide strike by ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists) who are demanding higher wages, 150 workers who are employed with the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Monday held a protest at a public health centre (PHC). The protest was staged in front of the dispensary affiliated to the Cantonment fourth and fifth wards.

“The workers told me that their workload has increased manifold, in the wake of the pandemic. While they are serving 12-hour shifts, their pay remains a paltry Rs 7,000 per month. Their demand for higher pay is the need of the hour,” T. Satish Gupta, a former member of the SCB, told Deccan Chronicle. He also demanded that the SCB declare an increased amount as ex-gratia for the workers.
