UDF workers celebrate victory in Kozhikode

A huge rally was taken out from the DCC office at 7 p.m., with Mr Raghavan waving at the voters and thanking them for his victory.

Kozhikode: UDF workers went into raptures as Mr M.K. Raghavan scored a hat-trick victory in Kozhikode.

They took out several rallies in the district when the final result in which he trounced his main rival Pradeep Kumar with a massive majority of 85,225 votes was announced in the evening.

A huge rally was taken out from the DCC office at 7 p.m., with Mr Raghavan waving at the voters and thanking them for his victory. The rally proceeded towards the League house and then to Kozhikode beach covering most parts of North Kozhikode.

His convincing win once again has proved his popularity among the people of Kozhikode. Though he went through anxious times during the sting operation exposing alleged corruption by him, he survived the controversy.

"The sting operation hit Raghavan like a storm during the campaign, but he proved his innocence and fought back," said DCC president T. Siddique. Mr Raghavan will address a meeting on Friday to thank the voters for their support.

Base of CPM destroyed: N.Venu

The Lok Sabha election results are against the political fascism of CPM and have destroyed the mass base of the party, said RMPI state secretary N.Venu. The votes this time are the protest of the people against the arrogant behavior of the Chief Minister and other ministers, corruption in governance and their luxury life. This is the decision of the people's court against the criminal politics that challenged them by making P. Jayarajan, the culprit of two murder cases, the candidate. Just like Bengal, the foundation of CPM in Kerala has also been destroyed, he added.
