DMK leads landslide win in Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Dramatically reversing its 2014 Lok Sabha elections total rout and in a repeat of the 2004 Parlaimentary results, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led the nine-party alliance including the Congress on Thursday to a landslide win in 39 parliamentary constituencies, 38 in Tamil Nadu and one in the UT of Puducherry. The other parties in the alliance included CPI, CPI(M), Vaiko-headed MDMK, Dalit party VCK, IUML, Kongu outfit, KMDK and the IJK.

At the time of filing this report at 10-30 pm, barring Theni Lok Sabha constituency where the sole AIADMK candidate and State Deputy Chief Minister, O. Pannerselvam's son, Ravindranathkumar, was leading over his nearest Congress rival E V K S Elangovan by a margin of little over 50,000 votes, the DMK and its allies were comfortably on the path of claiming 37 of the 38 seats that went to polls in Tamil Nadu. While polling in Vellore LS constituency was cancelled following cash seizures, the Congress was on road to a clear win in Puducherry union territory.
