Bengaluru: Ramzan means time for dates. A wide variety of high-quality dates are being sold at Russel Market in Shivajinagar, where shops have 64 varieties from Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries on display.

Talking about health benefits of dates, Mohammed Idrees Choudhury of Delicious said, “We call one variety Medjoul King, which is from South Africa and is sugar free. Ajwah dates, which are the best, are de-seeded and filled with cardamom, saffron, almond, and honey, with endless health benefits. Even regular dates can give you an incredible energy boost if consumed regularly. Calcium problems and weakness can be treated with dates. They purify blood and provide nutrition during pregnancy.”
He said, “We have 64 varieties of dates, ranging from Rs 100 per kg to Rs 7,500 per kg, the cost of Ajwah dates. Former CM Siddaramaiah, Chief Justice of Karnataka S.K. Mukherjee, many other IAS and IPS officers enjoy our dates and have appreciated our shop.”
