Facebook trolled for asking nudes

After a review by safety team, the image will be stored with a unique fingerprint on FB.

Hyderabad: Days after Cambridge Analytica shut shop following the data leak scandal, Facebook is asking people to send their nudes photos to keep them safe from other people’s eyes.

“AI is ready for detecting such pictures and technology can do this. Facebook already has tonnes of information as most people put their entire life on Facebook. It is nice that they are asking, but who would give their pictures. But it is like being caught between a rock and a hard place especially when crazy things are happening with data," said Ramesh Loganathan who heads the Co-Innovation Practice at IIIT-H.

It may be mentioned here that even without uploading images, people can report if their intimate images have been shared on social media without their consent. FB currently removes and hashes them to help prevent further distribution.

Meanwhile, FB was trolled online on asking for the pictures especially after the data scandal.

However, with human intervention, there are still false positives and false negatives when dete-cting images. With data privacy in question, intimate picture privacy has raised eyebrows.
