Hyderbad: It will take more than a year for battery-operated autorickshaws to ply at Charminar.
As part of the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project, the GHMC had planned to launch e-autorickshaws exclusively for the disabled and senior citizens. Other visitors will be barred from accessing these vehicles. The plan also includes sanitation vehicles which run on battery in the pedestrian zone
“The battery vehicles will be introduced only after the completion of civil works around Charminar and Char Kamans,” said Mr Mohammed Musharraf Ali Farooqui, Project Incharge, Charminar Pedestrianisation Project.
On an average 5,000 people visit Charminar every day. Currently restoration of small and significant structures is going on at Charminar, while works related to vertical parking are underway at Chowmahalla, Sardar Mahal, Laad Bazaar.
It may be mentioned that the state government with an objective to promote and preserve heritage sites in Hyderabad had taken up the project to introduce electric vehicles.
