Khammam district in Centre's eye

The Centre will try to establish a metal scrap recycling plant at Bayyaram in Khammam district.

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Steel Chawdhary Birender Singh said that if was not possible to set up a new steel plant, the Centre will try to establish a metal scrap recycling plant at Bayyaram in Khammam district.

He said in Delhi that the task force studying the feasibility of establishing a steel plant in Bayyaram will take a month to submit its report to the Centre.

“We promised to establish a steel plant in Bayyaram as per the AP Reorganisation Act. We appointed teams to study but unfortunately both the studies have found lack of feasibility to establish a steel plant,” Birender Singh told newsmen.

He said soon after the task force submits its report he will have a meeting with Union ministers from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to consider the report and take a final decision.

Steel Authority of India, Union Steel Ministry officials and representatives from both Telangana and AP States are members in the task force which will be going further into the nitty gritty of the issue and make possible recommendations, he added.
