Education minister approves temporary teachers
Chennai: Until the appointment of post-graduate teachers in the schools of northern districts, the government has allowed the Parent Teacher Associations to appoint temporary teachers for the period of three months.
A large number of vacancies in PG teacher posts in northern districts was highlighted by Deccan Chronicle on Monday. The 1,500-odd vacancies were pointed out as one of the main reasons for the poor performance of students in districts such as Vellore and Cuddalore in board exams.
After the issue was highlighted by DC, the school education minister K.A. Sengottaiyan has taken the steps to address the issue.
“The government is taking steps to appoint enough teachers in the northern districts. Till the appointment of PG teachers in the vacant posts, temporary teachers will be appointed for three months in those schools,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
“With the help of the Parent Teacher Association, PG graduates in the local area will be appointed on a temporary basis in these schools. The government will also issue orders specifying the payment details for these teachers soon,” he said.
