Violence casts a blot on polls
Thiruvananthapuram: Isolated incidents of violence were reported in various parts of the state on Tuesday during the Lok-sabha elections in the state. UDF candidate of Alappuzha district, Shanimol Usman was blocked at Kayamkulam when he entered the booth were voting was continuing after the deadline due to the technical snags. Polling officials had closed the gate of the polling stations after ensuring that voters were inside the gate. It was at this juncture that Ms Usman entered the booth. LDF activists questioned it. Ms Usman protested inside the booth as she said she had the legal right for entering polling booths.
In Kasargod Padanakkadu, three persons including UDF polling agent Jaleel was injured in clashes between the LDF and UDF.
There were reports of UDF candidate in Vadak-ara K Muraleedharan being allegedly stopped by LDF supporters. Such a complaint was also reported at Kuttiyattoor Aided Upper Primary School in Thaliparambu where K Sudhakaran, the UDF candidate for Kannur being stopped allegedly by LDF activists.
In booth number 55 of Muliyar Panchayat in Kasargod UDF has asked for re-poll alleging that the LDF had captured the booth.
As many as 43 votes that that was cast were found at the booth number 83 of Kalamasserry in Ernak-ulam. This machine will be stored separately. The election commission will look into whether the votes of this booth will be counted or not.
DGP Loknath Behera in a statement here congratulated the electorates of the state for the violence free elections.
