Just 541 candidates opt for online medical Eamcet in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A bare minimum number of 541 candidates opting for online medical test has stumped the Eamcet-2016 organisers, so much so they are in two minds over conducting the entrance test in two centres-Hyderabad and Warangal.
According to TSCHE (Telangana State Council for Higher Education) chairman Prof. Papi Reddy, online test in Warangal is doubtful as only 53 candidates have registered for the test from there. “It looks like one centre is more than enough. JNTU-Hyderabad is likely to be chosen as the online centre. We will clarify this matter at the earliest,””he said.
TS Eamcet is scheduled for May 2. Initially, the authorities announced that they would conduct online mode of exam for medical aspirants on a first cum-first-serve basis, with the maximum limit fixed at 25,000. Online edit option was activated for nearly ten days from April 4 to 13. However, there were very few takers.
The total number of students who applied for offline test crossed over a lakh this year. Papi Reddy felt that candidates were wary of taking the online exam, as it was new to them and to even the organisers. “Although the paper for offline and online exams as well as the test timings are the same, students were reluctant,” he said.
He emphasised on big changes in Intermediate education, with more stress on computer, internet and technology usage to instill confidence among students, especially the rural ones.
“Online exams will be the order of the day in the near future. It may take time for people to get used to the new technology. It will get more acceptance with each year,” he felt.
