BJP is for ensuring religious freedom: Pon Radhakrishnan

The BJP manifesto promises to bring anti-conversion law and this will not affect our prospects at the hustings, Mr Radhakrishnan said

Chennai: BJP's poll assurance on enacting a legislation to ban religious conversions is meant to ensure religious freedom and it will not affect his party's prospects at the hustings, claims Union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan.

“We oppose forced conversions and never interfered in the individual's rights to profess any religion. The BJP manifesto promises to bring anti-conversion law and this will not affect our prospects at the hustings,” Mr Radhakrishnan said.
He said his party would bring the change (of governance) as desired by the people.

Meanwhile, party president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan took strong exception to the ruling AIADMK “forcing” the members of the public to wait under the scorching sun to attend the election rallies of the chief minister during her state-wide tour.

On the transfer of the bureaucrats following a direction of the election commission, she said though delayed the action only proved a charge by opposition parties that the officials were biased towards the ruling party, as
true.“This has always been the practice in the past. The election commission should put an end to such prejudiced behaviour of the officials,” she said.
