JPVL regrets stoppage of sand excavation for Polavaram

Vijayawada: Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited, the authorised agency to mine and sell sand in AP, expressed regret over temporary stoppage of excavation and transport of sand for the high priority Polavaram irrigation project on Tuesday.

In a release issued on late Tuesday night, the agency said that its district staff members noticed excavation and transport of sand in the downstream of Godavari River near Polavaram project in East Godavari and due to misunderstanding they considered it as an illegal activity and asked stoppage of excavation and transport of sand temporarily until further clarification.

However, within a short time, the representatives of MEIL clarified that the sand was meant for Polavaram project.
